Easter is a 1978 album by The Patti Smith Group. Produced by Jimmy Iovine, it is regarded as the most commercial of their albums, owing to the success of the song "Because the Night" (co-written by Smith and Bruce Springsteen), which reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The first album released since she had suffered a neck injury while touring for Radio Ethiopia, Easter has been called the most commercially accessible of the Patti Smith Group's catalogue. Unlike its two predecessors, Easter incorporated a diversity of musical styles, though still including classic rock'n'roll ("Rock N Roll Nigger," one of Smith's most famous songs, "25th Floor/High on Rebellion," "Till Victory"), folk on "Ghost Dance'" spoken word on "Babelogue" (which concludes with the musical intro to "Rock N Roll Nigger" becoming louder and louder) and pop on the title track.

Smith's cover of "Privilege (Set Me Free)" made it into the UK charts.

Easter is the only 1970s album of Smith's that does not feature Richard Sohl as part of the Patti Smith Group; Bruce Brody is credited as the keyboard player. Sohl does contribute keyboards to the track "Space Monkey," however.

"Rock N Roll Nigger" is included on the soundtrack of Natural Born Killers.

Radio Ethiopia was the followup record to Smith's widely acclaimed debut Horses. In interviews surrounding the album's release, Smith often said that she wanted "Radio Ethiopia" to be a hit and chose Jack Douglas as a producer accordingly. The music was noticably different from Horses in that songs such as "Ask The Angels" and "Pumping (My Heart)" sounded and were structured like mainstream rock music at the time (both songs have been likened to The Rolling Stones, one of Smith's favorite bands. However, while various songs such as the aforementioned two seemed accessible, songs such as "Ain't It Strange" and "Poppies" were less conventional, with Smith declaring the latter as the predecessor to "Land".

The title track on "Radio Ethiopia" is one of Smith's most notorious songs, almost legendary for appearing to be "10 minutes of noise". Critics often described live renditions of the song as very negative moments of Smith's concerts. Smith herself spoke highly of the track, speaking of how the lyrics refer to Rimbaud's dying wishes. Arguments both for and against the song have been developed by critics, fans and music listeners over whether the song truly is an extension of the Patti Smith Group's boundary-pushing or merely self-indulgence; similar arguments have always surrounded Yoko Ono's early work, which the song and Smith herself have been said to resemble at times.

"Pissing in a River" was released as a single with "Ask The Angels" as a b-side. It was also featured in the movie Times Square (1980) along with other late 1970s mosly punk and new wave songs.
The album was universally panned by music critics, who claimed that the band (who were criticized as being uninspired) overrode Smith herself and that the music lacked structure. In the greater scheme of things, it was a failure both commercially and critically, though The Distillers covered "Ask The Angels" for their 2000 album. Interestingly enough though, in articles about Smith in more recent times, the album has been called one of her "classic 70's albums".

Radio Ethiopia seems to have been forgotten in favor of its predecessor and the followup Easter, though some fans regard it as a truly inspiring, experimental and ambitious piece of work.

Horses is the debut album by Patti Smith released in November 1975, produced by John Cale. The innovative track, "Land", is a radical reworking of Chris Kenner's "Land of a Thousand Dances". "Gloria" is a similar reinterpretation of the old Van Morrison classic. "Birdland" is based upon "A Book of Dreams" (1973), a memoir of Wilhelm Reich by his son Peter.

While Horses's commercial success was modest – it peaked at #47 on the U.S. Pop Albums chart – its impact has been far greater.

Smith has been called an early pioneer of punk rock, such as by allmusic's William Ruhlman, who said that it "isn't hard to make the case for Patti Smith as a punk rock progenitor based on Horses", while PopMatters' David Antrobus chose it as his favorite album and considered it a life-changing classic. Michael Stipe bought the album as a high school student and says it "tore my limbs off and put them back on in a whole different order."

Horses frequently appears on lists compiling the greatest rock albums. Mojo Magazine named the album the tenth greatest of all time in 1995. In 2001, VH1 named Horses the 28th greatest album of all time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 44 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

An episode of Millennium, "The Time Is Now", would later use the song "Land" in a bizarre "music video" sequence depicting a character's descent into madness.

The album has many of the same producers that his first album did, including Kanye West and Just Blaze. In contrast to his debut, this album features no production from Aftermath CEO and famed hip-hop producer Dr. Dre, although longtime Dre collaborator Scott Storch produced two songs on the album. The album received a near perfect 4.5 mic rating from The Source. It has been said that there might be a mini-movie for the song Doctor's Advocate for a possible re-release of the album.

Many of the voices of the racecars are real race car drivers. They include Richard Petty, Mario Andretti, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Michael Schumacher. Notable cameos also included sports broadcaster Bob Costas as "Bob Cutlass," NASCAR broadcaster and former Winston Cup champion Darrell Waltrip as "Darrell Cartrip," Jay Leno as "Jay Limo", and Tom and Ray Magliozzi (hosts of NPR's weekly Car Talk) as Rusty and Dusty Rust-Eze. The film was rated G by the MPAA; in the UK, it was rated PG by the British Board of Film Classification for some mild peril, brief languge and crude humor.

The film premiered on May 26, 2006 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.

Babel weaves together stories taking place in Morocco, Japan and Mexico. It was an international co-production between production companies based in France, Mexico and the USA. The film was first screened at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, and was later shown to audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Zagreb Film Festival. It opened in selected cities in the United States on October 27, 2006, and went into full release on November 10, 2006. On January 15, 2007 it won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Drama. It has also been nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

The fourth album by English rock band Led Zeppelin, released on November 8, 1971. It has no easily expressed official title and is commonly referred to as Led Zeppelin IV. Atlantic Records catalogues have used the names Four Symbols and The Fourth Album, and it is also variously referred to as Untitled, Runes, Sticks, Man With Sticks, Four and ZoSo (after the appearance of the first character or symbol printed on the LP label). Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page frequently refers to the album as Led Zeppelin IV in interviews, while singer Robert Plant thinks of it as "the Fourth Album, that's it." The album is one of the best-selling albums in history, with over 23 million units sold in the United States alone. Estimates for worldwide figures usually top 30 million units.

The album was recorded at Island Records's newly opened studios in Basing Street, London, around the same time as Jethro Tull's Aqualung, and at Headley Grange, a remote Victorian house in East Hampshire, England.

After the fairly negative critical reaction Led Zeppelin III had received in the autumn of 1970, Page decided that the next album would not have a title, but would instead feature four hand-drawn symbols on the inner sleeve and record label, each one chosen by the band member it represents. Page explained, "We decided that on the fourth album, we would deliberately play down the group name, and there wouldn't be any information whatsoever on the outer jacket. Names, titles and things like that do not mean a thing."
These symbols are the official title of the album, and Atlantic Records initially distributed graphics of the symbols in many sizes to the press for inclusion in charts and articles. The album was the first to be produced without conventional identification, and this communicated an anti-commercial stance that was controversial at the time (especially among certain executives at Atlantic).

Led Zeppelin IV remains a perennial favorite on classic rock radio and features "Stairway to Heaven", one of the most famous and popular rock songs ever recorded. This was the band's third consecutive U.K. chart topper, and it reached #2 in the U.S., lasting 259 weeks on the chart there. During the track's 35 years of existence, its combined radio airplay in the United States alone has totaled over 50 years.

In 1998, Q magazine readers voted Led Zeppelin IV the 26th greatest album of all time, while in 2000 the same magazine placed it at number 26 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. In 2003, the album was ranked number 66 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It is number 7 on Pitchfork Media's Top 100 Albums of the 1970s. A 2005 listener poll conducted by Toronto classic rock station Q107 (CILQ) named Led Zeppelin IV the #2 best classic rock album of all time. In 2006, the album was rated #1 on Classic Rock magazine's100 Greatest British Albums poll. In 2006, the album was rated # 1 on Guitar World 100 Greatest Albums, voted by the readers.

Led Zeppelin III, the third album by English rock band Led Zeppelin, was released October 5, 1970 by Atlantic Records. It was recorded between January and August 1970 at Olympic Sound, London, and Ardent Studios, Memphis.

This album added acoustic and folk rock elements to the band's established rock and blues repertoire, which also helped endear the band to progressive rock fans. However, some detractors attacked the heavier tracks as being mindless noise, whilst the acoustic material was criticised by others for imitating the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Although these negative reviews had a slight effect on sales at the time, Led Zeppelin III was still a trans-Atlantic #1 hit and, with the passage of time, its reputation has recovered considerably.

The album contains two of Led Zeppelin's most well-known songs: "Immigrant Song" and "Since I've Been Loving You". "Immigrant Song", written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, is about the Norse invasions of England (an ironic interpretation of immigration) and was inspired by the band's recent performances in Iceland. "Since I've Been Loving You" is a classic blues song featuring heartfelt interplay by all four group members and would become a performance staple of Led Zeppelin concerts, especially from 1971 through 1973. Other fan favourites from the album were "Celebration Day", "Out on the Tiles", and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp". The song "Gallows Pole" is actually an arrangement of a traditional folk song by that name, also recorded by Lead Belly some thirty years earlier.

Led Zeppelin II, also known by the unofficial nickname The Brown Bomber, is a rock and roll album, the second released by English band Led Zeppelin in 1969. Here they further developed ideas established on their debut album, creating a work which became even more widely acclaimed and arguably more influential.

The album was recorded during a hectic and much-traveled period of the band's career from January through August 1969, when they completed four European and three American concert tours. Each song was separately recorded, mixed and produced at various studios in the UK and the US. The finished tracks reflect the raw, evolving sound of the band and their innovations as live performers.

Led Zeppelin II largely writes the blueprint for 1970s hard rock. Blues-derived songs like "Whole Lotta Love", "Heartbreaker", "The Lemon Song" and "Bring It on Home" are now standards of the genre, where the guitar-based riff (rather than vocal chorus or verses) defines the song and provides the key hook. Such arrangements and emphases were at the time atypical in popular music. As such, the album is generally considered to be very influential on the development of rock music, being an early forerunner of heavy metal, and inspiring a host of other rock bands including Deep Purple, Van Halen and Guns N' Roses.

Shortly after their first tour, the group's self titled first album, Led Zeppelin was released on January 12, 1969. Its blend of blues, folk, and eastern influences with distorted amplification made it one of the pivotal records in the creation of heavy metal. Ironically, Robert Plant has commented that it is unfair for people to think of the band as heavy metal, since about a third of their music was acoustic. In an interview for the Led Zeppelin Profiled radio promo CD (1990) Jimmy Page said that the album took about 36 hours of studio time to create (including mixing), and stated that he knows this because of the amount charged on the studio bill. In Stephen Davis' biography of the band, Hammer of the Gods, it is stated that Peter Grant claimed the album cost £1,750 to produce (including artwork). By 1975 the album had grossed $7,000,000.

Keys performed and taped her installment of the MTV Unplugged series on July 14, 2005 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. During this live session, Keys added brand-new arrangements to her original songs such as "A Woman's Worth" and the funk-driven "Heartburn", and performed a few choice covers. Part of Keys' audience also included her guest performers; she collaborated with rappers Common and Mos Def on "Love It or Leave It Alone", reggae artist Damian Marley on "Welcome to Jamrock", and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine on a cover of The Rolling Stones' 1971 song "Wild Horses".

In addition to a cover of "Every Little Bit Hurts", previously performed by singers such as Aretha Franklin and Brenda Holloway, Keys also premiered two new original songs: "Stolen Moments", which she co-wrote with producer Lamont Green, and "Unbreakable" which peaked at number four and number thirty-four on Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop and Hot 100 respectively. It was more successful on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay peaking at number one for eleven weeks. The session was released on CD and DVD on October 11, 2005. Known simply as Unplugged, the album peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with 196,000 units sold in first week of release. So far the album has sold one million units in the United States. The debut of Keys' Unplugged was the highest debut for an MTV Unplugged album since MTV Unplugged in New York (1994) by Nirvana, and the first Unplugged by a female artist to debut at number one. It was nominated for four Grammy Awards: "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" for "Unbreakable", "Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance" for "If I Was Your Woman", "Best R&B Song" for "Unbreakable", and "Best R&B Album". The album won three NAACP Image Awards: "Outstanding Female Artist", "Outstanding Song" for "Unbreakable", and "Outstanding Music Video" for "Unbreakable".

Alpha Dog is an American film written and directed by Nick Cassavetes, released on January 12, 2007. Based on the true story of Jesse James Hollywood, the story follows a young drug dealer, Johnny Truelove, and his involvement with the kidnapping of 15 year old Zack Mazursky.

During filming, Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney Ronald J. Zonen provided copies of virtually every document in his file and served as an unpaid consultant to the film, citing his desire to have Hollywood captured. Zonen prosecuted Hollywood’s co-defendants and was poised to prosecute Hollywood. This alleged conflict of interest led to the decision by the California Court of Appeal for the Second District, who ruled on October 5, 2006 that based on Zonen's disclosure of the files — which included confidential information and service as consultant to the film — he should be recused from further involvement in prosecuting Hollywood.

On December 20, 2006, the California Supreme Court granted review on Hollywood and a factually-unrelated case, Haraguchi v. Superior Court, involving the recusal of another prosecutor from Zonen's office, thus effectively staying the order to recuse Zonen.[3] It is unclear how long it will take for the California Supreme Court to decide whether Zonen or his colleague will remain on their respective cases.
